I was reading a post today from a luthier who recently had his hands on a cornerless violin with C-holes instead of f-holes (it also has very strange mechanical pegs but whatever) and some very unusual peg hardware (an odd configuration of non-traditional pegs and a sort of roller nut)
Which is like catnip to me!
Sadly, no sound sample, but he did say that on the one hand, the instrument is beautifully, skillfully made, but on the other hand, it just sounds Weird. It’s competently made but it differs enough from the Typical Blueprint to affect the sound.
