I’ve not been totally comfortable playing my Cricket violin because the shoulder rest doesn’t play well with my personal geometry. Nothing wrong with the shoulder rest design really; on my traditional violin I use a shoulder rest that gets recommended for long necks, not because I have a long neck but because my chest is really scoop-y so I need the height on that side lol.

So I’ve been fiddling (ha!) around with cloths and pads and garments, and I think I’ve finally settled on a solution:

*grits teeth* Playing it more like I don’t have a shoulder rest.

I acknowledge that there’s lots of good reasons to go restless and lots of good reasons to use a rest; I am a true shoulder rest centrist. (Even worse: I think any shoulder support counts as a shoulder rest, even if it’s not a bridge type. Come at me.)

I just am not a huge fan of playing restless with my traditional violin with its current set up but I don’t have any desire to change the set up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So I am not super comfortable with restless playing, but since I’m not doing a whole lot of wild shifting on Kytte, I think this is the easier, faster, and cheaper option (compared to trying to prototype a shoulder rest lol)
